A trip to the golf club has ANDY COOPER checking the position of his hands for a different reason on this occasion

You know what it’s like at this time of year. The other half wants to take advantage of the crisp, bright weather conditions and get in a cheeky round of golf. You’re feeling a little in need of a pep-up on the beauty front and don’t want to be at a loose end while they perfect their swing with their pals.

Well, I’m pleased to say it’s not necessary for you to be a golf widower any longer. Because as my recent experience at Wear Park Spa shows, while she takes to the nearby course, you can relax in style and get yourself nicely buffed and beautified in luxurious surroundings.

Ah, got you there, didn’t I? Why SHOULD beauty treatments be the sole preserve of the fairer of the species? In fact, if us chaps are the less fair variety then perhaps a little more time letting others look after us and instilling a better ‘beauty’ regime might just have some of us looking in finer fettle than we do now.

That is certainly the case with my hands as I gaze upon them now tip tapping away at the keyboard following my man manicure experience at the calming and charming hands of one of the team of expert beauty therapists at Wear Park Spa.

This newly-opened spa at Exeter Golf & Country Club certainly stands out, both for the quality and ambience you experience in the spa rooms and the complementary surroundings and facilities it can offer.

After my partner and I shook off some of the end of year tension with a morning’s aromatherapy massage expertly conducted on adjacent tables in a warm and relaxing room, we were able to wander down to the club’s dining room for a tasty and enjoyable lunch spent gazing out over the immaculate grounds laid out before us.

Golfers attempted to perfect their putts outside the window, reminding us that a top level course is available to enjoy should you not be one for beauty treatments or simply, as I mentioned, want something to take up your time while being pampered.

Add in the fact that access to and from the club is simplicity itself – and parking is free – and you have a pretty unbeatable package. It’s no exaggeration to say you could spend all day there…it’s a place with plenty of ways to relax on offer.

Wear Park Spa offers ESPA products and treatments as standard – the only venue to do so in the Exeter area - and with a full range of treatments on offer from massages to manicures and facials to foot treatments, together with spa day packages, it’s bound to be a popular spot for those seeking some R ’n’ R in unique surroundings.

The spa is finding it is getting more bookings by men than it expected, which is hardly surprising if they feel as invigorated and buffed as I did following my visit. Chaps, the choice is yours.
