A change in season doesn’t just mean a change in temperature. For the fashion-concious the transitional season offers a host of dilemmas for our wardrobes.

It’s not just dressing for the colder weather; our lifestyles also change between seasons, altering the way we dress. Combine with with new ‘must have’ trends landing in stores, it’s no wonder many are left feeling confused.

Just as well then that I’ve interviewed some of Exeter’s most stylish ladies, whose answers are sure to inspire and advise.

First up is Lorna Ruby, owner of Lorna Ruby Clothing, 15 Paris Street, Exeter.

What is your ‘must have’ item of the season?

“My key piece for this season is a felt hat, floppy or fedora style in jewel colours.”

What’s your style advice for dressing through the transitional season?

“Layer up. Scarves can add so much to an outfit; we have some lovely big wool and silk scarves in Lorna Ruby Clothing from Becksondergaard - they work perfectly thrown over your shoulders should you get caught out with the weather.”

What or who are your style influences?

“I’m easily inspired when it comes to fashion, from catwalk to street style. However, my own style is fairly paired-down.

“I like simple cuts with a splash of colour or print and one accessory to finish it off, whether it be a statement necklace or a hat. I find the Scandinavians do it best!”
