As we all know, the change in season can be a fashion nightmare - especially if it springs on you suddenly like it seemed to this year.

Luckily I’ve interviewed some of Exeter’s most stylish ladies, whose answers are sure to inspire and advise your autumn wardrobe.

Last week I gave you an insight into Lorna Ruby’s style tips. This week I’ve spoken to Roberta Juxon-Keen, manager of The Real McCoy, 21 Fore Street, Exeter.

What is your ‘must have’ item of the season?

“I’m drawn to an androgynous aesthetic, mixing vintage and contemporary in an attempt to create a unique look.

“I like fairly clean-cut basics to offset more elaborate pieces, and therefore my ‘must have’ this season has to be a loosely tailored trouser suit in my favourite colour - black.”

What’s your style advice for dressing through the transitional season?

“Though I love summer as much as the next sun-deprived Brit, autumn/winter is my favourite time of year for fashion. I love layering shirts under sweaters with jeans and finishing with a statement or classic coat as you can always lose a layer if necessary.

“I also love a hat; whether it’s a beanie or fedora - they keep you warm and add an element of cool to any outfit.”

What or who are your style influences?

“My biggest style influence has to be the 60s and its icons, such as Francoise Hardy, Jane Birkin, Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot.

“I love the juxtaposition of feminine and masculine that all of these women championed in such an effortless and cool way. Fortunately for me, the 60s is the era of the season for A/W14, so I will continue to look to my icons as the foundation for my personal style and bring out my thicker shift dresses that are too warm for summer.”
