The Dogs Trust at Ilfracombe are now over half way through their dramatic rebuild which is due for completion in Spring 2013.
As centre manager Pam Stow explains, the completion of the two new re-homing blocks has led to a jubilant atmosphere at the centre, despite the long journey ahead: Though we dont expect work to be completed fully until March 2013, were delighted that our dogs have started to move into their new homesthough the centre still looks like a building site, the end is in sight, so were all very excited!
The rebuild incorporates improvements inspired by over 10 years of research, design development and advances in behavioural knowledge. Though one of the key driving forces behind the project is the desire to regularly improve the environment surrounding the dogs as happier dogs are not only easier to handle, but easier to re-home.
In addition, the Dogs Trust has been able to utilize the project to promote its green initiatives, in order to help them lower their carbon pawprint. Plans include high level insulation; under floor heating; glass fronted, angled kennels and the redevelopment of existing buildings and Brownfield sites.
Though work is still taking place, Pam urges people not to be frightened by the centres humble exterior, as the trust is completely operational in spite the work; Of course we are still open for re-homing, so please dont be put off by the rubble we would love for you to pop in and visit us.
Anyone wanting to re-home a dog should visit the re-homing centre at Hazledene, West Down, Ilfracombe, North Devon, EX34 8NU or call 01271 812 709.
