Hundreds of shoppers came to look for a bargain at the local charity’s new store on 8-10 Fore Street – receiving a warm welcome from Sanctuary mascot, Dipsybell.

The tiny Shetland is one of the many ponies which the charity is able to care for thanks to the kindness of its supporters. She made the short journey from the Sanctuary’s Visitor Centre at Coombe Park, near Totnes to showcase the new shop and the charity’s work.

The Brixham store will help to raise more funds towards the Sanctuary’s vital efforts rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming vulnerable equines, and Sarah Hallett, Area Shop Manager for The Mare and Foal Sanctuary thanked everyone for their support.

She said: “We had a brilliant day and it was fantastic to see so many people coming in to say hello.

“The new shop has lots of variety, so shoppers can find everything from clothing to toys at bargain prices.

“Dipsybell herself had a wander inside and she certainly seemed to enjoy it!

“We’ve got come lovely items in the shop and are always looking for new stock, so we would be very grateful to anyone who wanted to donate their unwanted goods for us to sell on.

“We’re also looking for volunteers to join our teamso please get in touch if you think you can help – even if it’s only a few hours a week.

“Thank you to everyone who made it such a great event and we look forward to a meeting lots more people in Brixham.”

The new shop will be open from 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm every Sunday.
