A TV series following the lives of people living and working in Cornwall and Devon returns to screens. John Nettles narrates Channel 4’s look at village, rural and coastal life in the beautiful south west

Devon and Cornwall showcase the stories of those who call the region visited by millions of holidaymakers every year home.

The first series last year attracted much attention - not least for its narrator, whose exaggerated efforts at a westcountry accent prompted many comments on social media.

This time the series is narrated by St Austell-born actor John Nettles, who grew up in Cornwall and now lives on a farm in north Devon within sight of Roughtor and Brown Willy in Cornwall.

The second series airs every Monday, but you catchup on the previous episodes on Channel 4’s All 4 .

In the first episode of the new series, Cornish fisherman Phil Trebilcock takes views on a journey as he embraces a warm summer’s day with flat calm seas, in a bid to find lobster and crab. As he prepares for Newquay’s annual fish festival, he and his fellow singers are in fine voice for a rousing performance.

The episode will also feature Exmoor farmers Rob and Sarah Taylor getting their native ponies ready for the show season and Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel, a haven for puffins and other seabirds.

Back in Cornwall, this time on the south coast, diving instructor and shipwreck hunter Mark Milburn heads out into the Fal Estuary with friend and archaeologist David Gibbins, in search of the Queen, a passenger ship that sank in the early 1800s.
