Arts writer Gemma Clapp reviews the group’s stunning new book that showcases some of the best local artists
We are blessed with a lot of talented artists here in the South West, from painters and printmakers to ceramisists and sculptors. Many of these artists form The South West Academy which was created in 2000 to bring together like-minded artists and help them promote their stunning work.
Now The South West Academy have published a book which showcases some of their best work and introduces us to the people behind the art.
Art, People, Place is a stunning glossy book that would make the perfect coffee table book.
Filled with gorgeous pictures and interesting tales of the artists by Michael Carter, it’s a book you can pick up while relaxing with a cup of tea and wonder at the sheer creative genius of local artists.
It tells us how the Academy was formed and how it has developed into the diverse group it is today, and is broken into small easy to read sections allowing us to pick it up and put it down at leisure.
Quite frankly, it’s a real must-read for any Westcountry art lover.
Art, People, Place costs £24.99 and is available from local stockists or from Halsgrove Direct, halsgrove.com, 01823 653777.
