Devon is set to go science-fiction crazy with the launch of a renowned sculptor's special effects boot camp
Former Doctor Who star Colin Baker has praised Andrew Sinclair, who owns The Sculpture School in Bondleigh, Devon. The sculptor is running a five-day boot camp next week.
Known for his sculptures at Royal Ascot and London’s Crosby Hall, Andrew’s pilot boot camp proved so successful that he is holding a course from 24 to 28 August.
Hoping to teleport its participants into a new dimension, the boot camp offers students and professionals the chance to construct their own monsters and aliens.
One of Andrew’s most celebrated pieces is a bronze bust of Colin, sculpted for a fundraising event in 2013.
Sixth Doctor Colin said: “Andrew is a brilliant sculptor. He has the knack of imbuing his subjects with vitality, character and life.
“Andrew’s ability as an artist, sculptor and innovator will make him a superb teacher for students looking for a career in model making and monster creation for TV and film.”
Andrew comments: “I am really excited by these courses which I believe are unique. Essentially I’m teaching special effects students how to correctly convey anatomical features in the fantasy figures they create. In other words, making them appear truly realistic. Within the film and special effects industries, I don’t know of any other figurative artist who is teaching people how to use traditional sculpture to do this.”
