Two former school friends from Torquay have made a documentary feature film about the mysterious death of a Hollywood screenwriter.
The film, called The Writer With No Hands, will have its world premiere at the prestigious Hotdocs International Film Festival on 28 April.
Matthew Alford and the director Will Westaway grew up in Torquay. Will still lives there and established his film production company, Westaway Film, in 2006. Matthew moved to Bath in 2003 but maintains strong links with the Bay. The pair went to Torquay Grammar School.
The film is about Matthew’s search for the truth about Hollywood screenwriter Gary Devore. The writer was working on a controversial script about real-life CIA bank jobs when he disappeared. Several months later his body was found in a California aqueduct - minus both his hands.
Matthew and Will self-financed the film on a shoestring and flew out to Los Angeles for part of the shoot. Find out more at writerwithnohands.com
