This magazine carries a single, simple message on its cover this month - #ThereWithYou

But that message is so much more than just a hashtag. It’s a statement of our intent, our commitment, our public pledge to you, our audience. And that is this – at a time of crisis unsurpassed in this country since the dark days of the Second World War we ARE there with you all the way. We share your concerns, your anxieties, your sense of loss at our normal way of life being jolted in a completely unprecedented manner. We feel how you feel and we are here to be part of the solution.

As the coronavirus pandemic affects virtually every aspect of our lives, leaving our community reaching out to find a focus and a sense of belonging, all of us here at Devon Life have a manifest and profound desire to do all we can to inform, to entertain and to provide comfort at a time when it is needed most.

We have been proud to serve the community of Devon for over 50 years and now, in probably the toughest period our amazing county has faced during this magazine’s existence, we know how vital it is that we step up to the plate and do even more for you.

When we started work on this issue of the magazine what now seems four long weeks ago, the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on this country were at a minimum. How times have changed since then.

So, we have had to lose many, many pages we originally planned for the May issue and replace them with new content focusing on the pandemic and its impact on the county. As always, we have tried to do this by being entertaining as well as informative. We hope you appreciate and enjoy our efforts. At a time when being at home self-isolating can be a lonely and sometimes frustrating experience, we hope reading a magazine can provide some relief.

But Devon Life itself is not immune to the economic crisis which the threat of coronavirus has wrought upon is. Many of the customers who normally advertise with us – and thus help to fund the journalism which brings the features and stories to you – have felt it necessary to pause their spend with us this month. We blame no one for this decision and we are completely empathetic with the reasons why they have taken the decision. We look forward to welcoming you back to our pages when times are brighter.

Equally, many customers have chosen to remain in our pages – sometimes even with an increase in spending – and we have been delighted to welcome new ones too. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their support for us. They are a key reason we can be here every month to inform and entertain our audience.

But the other key element in all this is you, our readers. If you are an irregular reader of Devon Life or, indeed, have picked up the magazine for the first time, then I would urge you to take out a subscription with us. There are details in the panel on this page and elsewhere throughout the magazine which reveal the fantastic deals we have have right now. And if you are already a subscriber – thank you for your continued custom and maybe you might consider taking out a subscription for a family member or friend?

It is our fervent aim to be here for another 50 years to serve the community of Devon, so please help us to continue to do that.

Until the next time....stay safe and enjoy the magazine.
