Powderham Castle, near Kenton was the magnificent setting for the annual Michaelmas Fair hosted by the ABF – The Soldiers' Charity.

Powderham Castle, near Kenton was the magnificent setting for the annual Michaelmas Fair hosted by the ABF The Soldiers Charity. The Earl and Countess of Devons home was filled with an array of stalls selling a wide variety of food, gifts and stocking fillers from Murder Mystery Tours, Turkish Delight and delicious local produce.

This year was as busy as ever with just over 500 people through the door and the event raised just over 6,000 for this important charity. All proceeds from the Fair will support ABF The Soldiers Charity to provide help for soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need. The current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have highlighted the risks that these brave servicemen take every day in the service of their country. Sadly the need for charitable support increases year on year.

We would particularly like to thank Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood, auctioneers and valuers, who are based in Exeter and have sponsored this event since it started 12 years ago.

The Regional Director for the Soldiers Charity in the South West, Lieutenant Colonel Alan Gorczyca said: The Fair continues to be one of the Charitys main fundraising events in Devon and this year was no exception. The rooms on the ground floor of the castle provided a brilliant setting and the stalls capitalised on this with their excellent displays. We are grateful to all those who attended and made the day a great success.

The next Michaelmas Fair will be on Thursday the 3rd November 2011. Details of the Soldiers Charity or the event can be obtained from:
