Exeter library welcomes Stella Duffy to talk about ‘London Lies Beneath’

Hear award-winning author, director and theatre-maker, Stella Duffy OBE, give an exclusive talk at Exeter Library on her latest novel ‘London Lies Beneath’.

Based on a true story, London Lies Beneath is Duffy’s first novel in four years and at 6pm on Friday 4th November the public are invited to Exeter Library to hear the authors own thoughts on her latest book.

Stella Duffy has written thirteen novels, over fifty short stories and ten plays. London Lies Beneath is Duffy’s 14th novel and tells the story of three families and the tragedy that will change their worlds forever. The book explores the bright and complex world of South London in 1921, uncovering working class families and the hidden histories that go with them.

Critic Priya Parmar said: “Crafted in glorious prose and teeming with genuine wisdom, London Lies Beneath is a story of youth, adventure, friendship and tragedy. Beautifully layered and anchored in extraordinary historical detail, this is a story that truly haunts. Be careful when you pick up this novel, it will stay with you forever”.

Emily Macaulay, Centre Manager at Exeter Library said: “Stella is not only a much-loved author and theatre maker, she is a wonderful ambassador for all thing arts, literature and culture. It’s a real honour to have her coming to Exeter Library to talk about her latest and much-anticipated novel. We can’t wait to welcome her to the library and hear her reveal her personal thoughts about London Lies Beneath.”

In 2016 Duffy was awarded an OBE for services to the Arts and has won the Stonewall Writer of the Year for two years running as well as the CWA Short Story Dagger. In addition to her writing work, Stella is a theatre-maker and the co-director of the international Fun Palace campaign for greater access to culture for all.

Tickets are available at Exeter Library for £5.00 or you can visit Exeter Library’s Eventbrite page where the tickets are £5.77 including an online booking fee.

London Lies Beneath will be available for purchase on October 27th and will also be on sale at the event where fans can get their books signed.
