National Campaign for Drawing events at the Devon Guild
PUBLISHED: 09:20 23 October 2013
Art organisations all over the country are running creative events this October as part of the National Campaign for Drawing. This year the Devon Guild is taking part, and free, fun activities are being offered to the public during the half-term holiday.
The Drawing Pa-lace, a DIY space made especially for the public to fill with drawing and designs based on lace, is holding the Big Draw event.
The activities are based on the Guild’s current exhibition intoLACE, a display of works by artists which looks at the traditional craft of lace-making. Exhibits feature fabric-wrapped ceramic, photograms, glass-encased lace, sun-prints through lace, laser-cut paper sculptures and Jo Scholar’s installation of metallic and projected lace.
Guild staff will help visitors create their own patterns and designs. Kids and families can get inspired by themes such as patterns in nature, geometry, positive and negative space, spider webs, embroidery and camouflage. Activities include making a “lace-face” - Halloween masks in a Venetian style – and visitors can add to a large, collective wall decoration made from a jigsaw of graphic patterns, paper-cuts, stencilled drawings and tracings.
Events are free. Drop in from 11am-4pm. 29-30 October.
Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Bovey Tracey, TQ13 9AF, is open daily 10am-5.30pm. Free entry.
