DREAM-A-WAY LAUNCH PARTNERSHIP WITH HMS DEFENDER AT EXETER GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB

Exeter Golf and Country Club are hosting the launch of a new partnership between local award-winning charity, Dream-a-way and the Royal Navy's new destroyer ship, HMS Defender.
Exeter Golf and Country Club are hosting the launch of a new partnership between local award-winning charity, Dream-a-way and the Royal Navys new destroyer ship, HMS Defender.
On Friday 10th September, HMS Defenders Senior Naval Officer will be joined by his Lieutenant for a lunch with the Chairman of Dream-a-way, Jeff Merrett, MBE and local supporting dignitaries at Exeter Golf and Country Club, as part of their ongoing support of the charity. Councillor John Winterbottom will attend, along with Geoffrey Bush, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Devon, plus Judi Spiers, of BBC Radio Devon and Marc Astley, Editor of the Express and Echo, both of whom are Vice Presidents of Dream-a-way.
Dream-a-way was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in 2008, and has since gone on to fulfil the dreams of many people from across the South West with physical and learning difficulties. By providing holidays and day trips, Dream-a-way offers opportunities to experience respite for both the people affected by such difficulties and their families. In January 2010 Dream-a-way celebrated raising 1million since the charity started in 1993.
The Senior Naval Officer of HMS Defender, who will be Captain of the Naval Destroyer ship selected Dream-a-way as their charity from a number of other charities from across the region and the UK.
HMS Defender is the fifth of six ships commissioned to replace the existing fleet of Type 42 destroyers. Each 150m-long vessels weighs about 7,350 tonnes and is designed to provide air defence cover.
