Devon & Somerset have cemented their impressive record in recent years by once again qualifying for the Pony Club Mounted Games Final for the Prince Philip Cup at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS).

Devon & Somerset have cemented their impressive record in recent years by once again qualifying for the Pony Club Mounted Games Final for the Prince Philip Cup at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS).

The club, whose area covers the Exmoor National Park, improved on their third-place finish in 2009 to lift the trophy last year.

The Pony Club Mounted Games is one of the most popular and enduring entertainment displays at HOYS and will again feature throughout the week. The spectacle sees six teams taking part in a range of activities and by the time they get to the show the finalists will have all, through immense skill and determination, fought off over 250 other clubs nationwide to qualify. The Prince Philip Cup started in 1956 with the aim to encourage a higher standard of riding throughout the Pony Club and to stimulate among the future generation a greater interest in riding as a sport and as a recreation.

The climax to this years competition is likely to be just as nail-biting as 2010, when Devon and Somerset edged out Oakley Hunt West (who have also already qualified) by a single point!

The 2011 Horse of the Year Show takes place from 4th 9th October in the LG Arena at Birminghams NEC and promises to be another exceptional event not to be missed! Alongside the Pony Club Mounted Games for the Prince Philip Cup, it will host the finals of the most highly-regarded Showing and Show Jumping championships, alongside an exciting line-up of equestrian entertainment. Other highlights will include the Mace Group-sponsored Display at Horse of the Year Show. The Musical Ride of the Household Cavalry, by permission of the CO HCMR, a Showing tutorial master class with Matthew Lawrence, Osborne Refrigerators Double Harness Scurry Racing, a Dressage Demo on Friday with Richard Davison, the Express Eventing Series Final, the new Think Like a Pony Interactive Feature Area and the infamous HOYS Retail Village featuring hundreds of trade stands!

Visitors are advised to book their tickets early to avoid disappointment. For show information, including the full show timetable and timings, and to book visit www.hoys.co.uk or call 0844 581 8282.
