Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is celebrating the rehoming of some of its longest serving residents - George, Megan, Alfie and Merlin who have collectively spent nearly 4 years looking for a new home.

George, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, had been looking for a home since May 2009, Megan, a very pretty German Shepherd, had been waiting six months and Alfie a black and white Collie and Merlin the German Shepherd had both been waiting since October last year.

Dogs Trust Ilfracombe Supporter Relations Officer, Claire Joselin, comments:

We are all delighted that four of our long termers have been rehomed this month. The average stay for a Dogs Trust dog is around 39 days yet some dogs can take a little longer to find their forever home. As Dogs Trust has a non destruction policy, we work very hard to give every dog the chance of a new home, including one to one training with our Behaviourists.

Quite often dogs are overlooked for no obvious reason at all, but thankfully the wait was worth it for George, Megan, Alfie and Merlin. We wish them all the best in their new homes.

If you think you have the time and love to give a Dogs Trust rescue dog, please visit the centre in West Down, Ilfracombe, call 01271 812 709 or visit http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/
