On the morning of Saturday 11th June, over 500 team members from Hall & Woodhouse managed public houses, including The Barn Owl in Kingskerswell, The Ness near Teignmouth, The Lighter in Topsham and the Old Inn, in Widecombe in the Moorwent out into their communities to collect litter in designated litter hot-spots, to celebrate the day Hall & Woodhouse was founded.
David Hoare, Retail Director of Hall & Woodhouse explains: This was a fantastic morning spent doing a little something for the communities that our managed public houses have been a part of over the years. Everybody threw themselves into the task and we collected over 1,000 bags of litter all together which is a lot of rubbish!
On Founders Day, 8th June 1898, George, Alfred and Frank Woodhouse made Hall & Woodhouse a limited company. Every year Hall & Woodhouse celebrates this day and for 2011 its managed public houses marked the day with its first ever Founders Sweepers event.
David continues: We had a great response from everyone that saw us in action on the day and the areas cleaned certainly looked nice and tidy afterwards. We picked up litter in all sorts of places from the beaches of Swanage in Dorset, to the city streets of Southampton and Bath to Londons West End wherever needed a good tidy up, really. After all the hard work was completed we all piled back for a piece of Founders Day cake and a bottle of limited edition Founders Ale. All thats left to do now is to decide where to pick litter next year!
