What sort of sofa from Christies Furniture is right for you?

If you’re thinking of buying a new sofa there’s a key question you’ll need to answer early on – should it be a traditional style or a corner sofa?
I recently went into the incredible new Christies Furniture store on Marsh Barton in Exeter knowing that I wanted to replace my worn out and tired sofas. I ended up buying a corner sofa which has truly enhanced my living space and I can sincerely say that I love.
As homes go more and more open plan the rise in popularity of the corner sofa has been swift over the past few years. Many people are embracing this fashionable style which not only looks stylish but also allows several people to sit in comfort.
But before you decide to buy one over regular sofas, you need to think whether a corner sofa is right for you – and for your home.
As the name suggests, a corner sofa has two sections which meet at a right angle, meaning you can place it conveniently in the corner of a room. They are great for maximising your available space as they fit tightly into corners.
I found that all corner group sofas at Christies Furniture are available where you can select whether you
want the longer piece to be facing the left or the right.
In addition, a great variety of their models are available on a modular basis, this essentially enables you to add as many extra sections as you like to extend the length in either direction just like the Moby Corner Group which I am a proud owner of.
The great advantage here is that you can work a design specific to the size of your room. You can also combine your corner sofa with a matching standard sofa and / or chairs.
Corner sofas are perfect for seating several people together, so if you’re a family who spend lots of time together watching television or if you regularly entertain guests, this is a piece of furniture that could become essential.
Plus, when there’s nobody else around it’s the perfect space to stretch out with a good book or magazine. Models like the Farnborough also have the option of including a sofa bed, it will look identical, so you wouldn’t know it was there, until bed time of course!
But be aware that a corner sofa won’t work for everyone, so think carefully before splashing out on something you may end up living with for many years.
If you are aiming to create an intimate atmosphere, then a cosy regular sofa may do the job better than a larger corner sofa. Perhaps the Hamley?
Think about the size of the room where you will use the sofa. If it’s too small, a large corner sofa may over power it. Even if it fits in one place in the room, you may find it won’t easily work in another spot.
Sometimes a regular sofa gives a better impression, for example in a formal reception area. Whether a standard or corner sofa is right for you, remember to take your room measurements with you so you can be clear as to what works best for your space.
Everything at Christies Furniture is available in a huge selection of designer fabrics so again, perhaps bring in a colour sample of your curtains and carpets so you can get just the right contrasting colour!
Throughout February in Christies Furniture on Marsh Barton, everything’s in their Half Price Sale. I recommend popping in to check out their incredible store and stunning sofa ranges.
They also have furniture for the dining and living room as well as luxury accessories to complete the look. They are located next door to their long established Bed Centre, the Devon Bed Centre on Marsh Barton.
