Charming markets and late night shopping opportunities– it must be time for choosing Christmas presents in Devon! We bring you the festive goings-on from all over the county
Live entertainment, carol singing, Christmas light switch-on, an appearance from Santa Claus and ‘Candlelit Kids’ seasonal workshops can all be expected at Dartmouth’s much-loved Candlelit Dartmouth.
The festive weekend will take place on November 30 and December 1.
With the backdrop of the city’s stunning cathedral, there aren’t many places prettier places to hold a Christmas market than the Exeter Cathedral Green. From November 15 to December 16, stalls will showcase the best of local and continental Christmas crafts, gifts and tasty foodie treats. This year local bands, carol singers and choirs will also be entertaining the crowds while they shop.
The Westpoint Centre, just outside the city centre, will once again be transformed into a magical winter wonderland from Friday 24th November – Sunday 26th November. The Christmas Shopping Fayre is the perfect place to pick up decorations, something special or perhaps even a gift for yourself!
Peruse a variety of stalls lining Fore Street, and a Farmers Market in the Town Square, in Kingsbridge on December 1.
There’ll be plenty of unique, local gifts to pick up as well as plenty of delicious fare to tuck into. Father Christmas will even be making an appearance!
Nestled in the charming village of Lifton, the Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre will be home to a Christmas market selling products from glassware, aromatic candles, home furniture and much more.
For a festive day out in truly unique surroundings, head to the centre on December 1 and 2.

5) Newton Abbot
Twinkling Christmas lights will fill the streets of Newton Abbot when they’re switched on at St Leonards Clock Tower on November 24, alongside entertainment and live music.
Christmas market stalls will also fill Queen Street and Courtenay Street on December 12 and 19.
6) Powderham Castle
On November 8 from 10am to 3pm, Powderham Castle, sitting perfectly alongside the Exe estuary, will be full of festive spirit this Christmas.
For three weeks, the picturesque city of Plymouth will be flooded by Christmas shoppers, looking for last minute gifts and stocking fillers, from November 29 to December 16.
This year, Plymouth’s Christmas Market will leave you spoilt for choice with over 50 stalls all housed in pretty log cabins. After an afternoon of shopping, unwind with a glass of mulled wine and a festive foodie treat in the heated seating area of the Bavarian style bar.
With the mesmerising soundtrack of choral singing all in the magnificent setting of Saltram, prepare for Christmas Day with an endless choice of festive treats to browse at Saltram’s Christmas Festival.
Between November 16 and 18, enjoy a bite to eat while you browse the stalls or immerse the beautifully decorated Enchanted House.
For one day only, on November 3, Tavistock’s Town Hall will play host to its Christmas market from 10am-4pm. This event is run by DIVERSE, a company renowned for organising much-loved events, with this Christmas market being no exception.
Expect stalls full of arts and crafts, home décor and woodwork items all ideal for unique gifts for loved ones. There’ll even be plenty of delicious mince pies to enjoy!
Once again the town’s will be brimming with festive cheer with the return of the ‘Totnes Night Market’ from 3.30pm on December 4, 11 and 18.
Soak in the aroma of mulled cider, tuck into a mince pie and enjoy glorious choral song while you browse a diverse and eclectic array of market stalls.
11) RHS Rosemoor
On November 23 - 25 Rosemoor will be hosting their annual food and craft fair. Taking place precisely one month before the big day, it’s the perfect way to get your Christmas shopping up and running.
As well as the magical mixture of stalls available for you to browse, their illuminations will be running on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until January 5.
After browsing the large selection of stalls, settle in with a warm drink to enjoy some fantastic street entertainment.
Join around 4000 other visitors as Saltash is turned into a winter wonderland for their festival on Fore Street.
Local shopkeepers will take their wares out onto the streets on December 1 between 2pm and 7pm while other entertainers mingle among the festival-goers.
Known as ‘Wonderland’, this makers market will feature 30 of the finest local contemporary craftspeople selling unique Christmas gifts guaranteed to delight all sorts of people.
The market takes place between November 29 and December 2 with several opportunities to also take part in a craft workshop.
15) Arlington Court
Based in a marquee out on the court’s lawn, this fair will star local producers selling jams, chutneys, jewellery, textile items, home furnishings, scarves, quilts, toys, cards, decorations, wood work and more.
The fair runs between November 17 and 18 with entry costing £3.
16) The Big Sheep
Throughout December - specifically December 1, 8, 15 and 22 - The Big Sheep in Bideford will be holding buzzing Christmas markets with dozens of local businesses attending.
Entry to the market is free but usual admission to the rest of the site will apply.
17) Forde House
60 different exhibitors will be populating Newton Abbot’s Forde House, a Grade 1 listed Jacobean former manor house.
Over December 1 and 2 between 10am and 4pm you can also enjoy live music and possibly a visit from Saint Nick himself.
