Devon’s Otter Brewery has launched a specially created ale with the aim of supporting the Royal British Legion.

The Brewery, located in the Blackdown Hills near Honiton, already supplies over 500 pubs across the South West of England with five environmentally friendly produced cask ales and has announced that it will donate 5p for every pint of its new unique ale ordered.

The blackberry-scented 4% beer has been fittingly titled Poppy Otter and is a blend of Pacific Gem and English Hops, creating a beautiful chestnut brown ale.

Throughout November it will be available to landlords with the aim of raising as much as possible to help fund the charity and support it towards its goal of £40 million.

Established in 1990 by David and Mary Ann McCaig, the brewery uses local ingredients and endeavours to create ales that help both the environment and local business.

Luke Roberts, Senior Sales Rep, explains: “As a family run brewery we couldn’t think of a better way to help those who assist our Armed Forces. It fits perfectly with Otter’s support of the community and allows us and our drinkers to help remember our fallen heroes.”

  • Great first article from Harry King. I hope the ale sells well. As an Otter Ale drinker I will look out for the Poppy Otter. I may even make a special trip to the pub!
