Finalists were asked to create a menu for a three-course dinner filled with originality and creativity as well as good cooking techniques and incorporating as many Devon ingredients as possible.

It had been a long wait for our five Home Cook finalists who joined us on awards night to learn who had won the prestigious title of Home Cook of the Year and they weren’t the only people anxious to hear the results.

Our sponsor partners, ALNO-owned Bradbury’s Kitchens, Miele and Waitrose all joined us on the night to support our cooks and wish our winner well.

After learning more about each of our cooks, Alex Murdin, Emma Chesborough, Karl Straw, Rachel Webb and Marcus Bawden, we invited Emma Bradbury on to the stage to present our winners with their prizes.

The title went to Alex Murdin who won a £500 KitchenAid and the chance to cook for a day with Michelin-starred Devon Chef, Anton Piotrowski; Emma Chesborough and Marcus Bawden were our runners up winning, respectively, an afternoon of private patisserie tuition with French chef, Sylvain Peltier and a one day course of their choice at Devon-based River Cottage.

Devon Life Home Cook of the Year is an annual event which celebrates the best of home cooking across the county.
