You certainly won't go hungry at this new food festival
This months first ever Dartington Food Fair will take place at The Shops at Dartington. Local producers will be showcasing the finest selection of food and there will be a Cookery Theatre, cider bar, Dartingtons own food shop, which is bursting with tasty treats, a hog roast, barbecue and a childrens cookery marquee. The newly opened Venus Caf and Takeaway will be serving delicious fresh meals alongside the famous Cranks restaurant. Should you fancy a stroll up to the Dartington Estate, then you can also visit the White Hart bar and restaurant.
The Simply Wood kitchen will have top chefs performing on the hour including Jane Baxter (Head Chef from Riverford Field Kitchen), Matt Cook (from Fish Face), Richard Hunt (from The Grand Hotel, Torquay) and many others. Ashburton Cookery School will be demonstrating why they have such a track record of success. Also confirmed are the flamboyant Reah brothers, restaurateurs with a passion for fish will be performing mouthwatering cooking demonstrations.
Hands-on family cooking activities will be under the guidance of Manna from Devon Cookery School, where you can learn how to create your own pizzas, burgers or kebab skewers, and cook them in the wood-fired oven on site. A full schedule of classes will run each day and places can be booked on the day at the Manna tent.
The Riverford Farm marquee will be cooking up a crowd with some delicious organic food tastings. Their award-winning food boxes will also be available to enjoy.
To entertain you over the weekend there is live music and entertainment from local bands. A dedicated childrens area will keep little ones busy. Activities include Dan the juggler, clay making sessions, face painting, hair braiding, and a special visit from Cosmo the Clown. There will also be the chance to meet the animals from both Pennywell and the Rare Breeds farm. For older children there will be climbing, abseiling, archery and mountain bike riding from Dynamic Dartington all bookable from the courtyard.
In addition to the fantastic food on offer, there are also 11 shops to explore: from Crafts to Dartington glass and pottery, fashion, toys, home wares, gifts and stationery. Make a day of it, wander up through the estate to view the spectacular gardens and medieval Dartington Hall.
