Abbfest has become a tradition for many, marking the end of the summer with a weekend celebration of all thats great about Devon.

Over 6,000 visitors descend on Fermoys Garden Centre near Newton Abbot for a Beer and Food Festival, featuring almost every beer and cider in Devon (thats over 130!!)and showcasing over 60 local food and craft producers, giving visitors the opportunity to try a wide range of delicious local fayre from sausages to shellfish and from pate to porkpies.

This year Ann Widdecombe, former fiery MP, local resident and Strictly Star, is opening the event on Saturday 24 September at 11am and Michelin-star chef Michael Caines will undoubtedly draw the crowds when he demonstrates his culinary skills in the demonstration kitchen at noon.

Music is a big part of the weekend, this year featuring a full line up of popular local acts including Exeter based Pop and Rock band Feenix, South West Indies: a local cover band and Soulside a 10 piece band of musician dedicated to giving the audience a good night out!

Sarah Dumont from Fermoys is one of the Event Organisers.Every year we are amazed by the number of people who come and enjoy the chilled atmosphere where the emphasis is definitely on fun for all the family. It takes a lot to organise such a large weekend and all of the organisers are locals who are all working towards one goal; to raise as much money for local charities as possible. Fermoy's has won several top awards in the Garden Centre industry recently including Garden Centre of the Year twice and Garden Centre with the best community involvement. We are keen to give something back to the local area where the majority of our customers come from, she says. We work with lots of local schools encouraging children to experience the joys in growing their own crops and at Abbfest we are happy to present a platform for local craft and food producers to show off their work to a large audience. We have a special Schools day in the run up to Abbfest where we invite schools to come and enjoy a day of healthy eating: giving children the chance to see and taste a whole range of new foods that are healthy but also fun

So encourage your friends and family over for the weekend and bring them along to Abbfest to see whats great about Devon.!
