Top burlesque star LouLou D’vil will be just one of the attractions drawing the crowds to The One Stop Vintage Shop on 30 November at Torquay’s Riviera Centre.
The event has been organised by Mark and Sarah Bell of Kinky & Quirky, who have led a burlesque revival in the Southwest.
There will be a daytime event featuring vintage traders, djs, promoters and aficionados, followed by a line up of some of the best UK burlesque and alternative cabaret acts.
Headlining will be Miss D’vil, from Finland - the reigning queen of burlesque- and Sarajevo-born Lada Redstar. The event finishes with an after show ball in the Arena.
Kinky & Quirky have been running vintage events in Torquay and South Devon since 2007 with great success.
They organize monthly vintage burlesque & cabaret shows in Torquay which sell out virtually every month as well as regular shows at the Corn Exchange in Exeter, the Pavilion in Exmouth and Seale Hayne in Newton Abbott.
With all the emphasis on creating a top quality night out for an eclectic and diverse audience Mark & Sarah Bell have been at the forefront of the burlesque revival in the Southwest and their audiences have seen some of the very best of the UK burlesque and cabaret scene perform exclusively for them.
Kinky & Quirky’s events have a huge national following and over 20,000 people have attended their shows.
This year sees them making changes to their current format and there will be no more monthly shows.
Instead they will be creating larger shows and after parties with international headliners and live music.
The first of these events is The One Stop Vintage Shop on 30 November at The Riviera Centre, Torquay.
An event in three parts, The One Stop Vintage Shop aims to celebrate and bring together a rich heritage of subcultures in Torquay.
The daytime event will showcase the vibrant local scenes past and present. Visitors can expect to meet up with local vintage traders, djs, promoters and aficionados. There will be a pop up beauty parlour offering makeovers and a photo booth to capture the look. There will also be an opportunity to see memorabilia from concerts and events from the days when Torquay was part of the touring circuit in the UK.
The second part of the event will see K&Q doing what they do best, putting on one heck of a show.
A line up includes some of the very best of the UK’s burlesque and alternative cabaret acts and headline performances from two of the Burlesque Hall of Fame 2013 winners: Sarajevo-born Lada Redstar and from Finland LouLou D’vil, Burlesque Hall of Fame 2013 Miss Exotic World 2013 - Reigning Queen of Burlesque.
The show will be held in the 1,500 capacity Forum Theatre of the Riviera Centre.
The final part of the event is the opportunity for all the guests to shake their own tail feathers at the after show ball to be held in the Arena of The Riviera Centre which will be transformed into a sparkly wonderland and be a visual and aural feast.
With djs playing an eclectic mix of vintage sounds and an appearance from 13 piece ‘Best Soul / R & B Band’ - South West Music Awards 2012’ Loose Cannons, this really will be a night to remember.
Local hotels including The Grand, The Grosvenor, The Toorak and some smaller independent B&B’s are all offering fantastic deals for guests to come for the weekend.
Organiser Sarah Bell says: “I am delighted that people are really getting behind this and celebrating such diversity, our advanced ticket sales are going really well and people are traveling from all over the U.K for this.”
