In the heart of Devon lies Exeter, the capital city of the county which boasts a fantastic array of history and culture as well as a modern and vibrant feel.

Exeter’s 2,000-year history is reflected in its fascinating heritage attractions, such as St Peter’s Cathedral and the Roman City Wall. Exeter Cathedral is one of the great cathedrals of England and one of the finest examples of gothic architecture.

Adding to the rich tapestry of the county’s capital, Exeter’s Underground Passages give visitors the chance to explore and discover a route originally built to bring fresh water into the city in medieval times. Red Coat Guided Tours offer a unique insight with volunteers sharing a wealth of information about the city. Other historic buildings include the Exeter Guildhall and Tuckers Hall.

Head down to Exeter’s Quayside, where you will find a hub of leisure and activity. You can explore the River Exe and Exeter Canal by boat, bicycle or on foot, and discover the Exe Island.

Exeter is also able to boast being one of the foodie capitals of the South West.
