A Kingsbridge-based entrepreneur has been nominated for not one, but two national awards at 2013’s biggest UK business event dedicated to entrepreneurship and small businesses.
CEO of The Spark, Alison Theaker, will join over 1,000 business owners at the ICC in Birmingham this September, to find out if she has scooped prizes in the Best Business Enabler and Most Impressive Growth categories.
Alison devotes her time to helping start-ups and sole-traders improve their businesses by ensuring their time spent on PR and marketing is cost effective and efficient.
Speaking about the awards, Alison said: “Getting national coverage would be a huge validation of the value of what I do.
“I want to inspire others to be the best they can be in their business and this would also show them that they could be national players too. It would also consolidate the growth I’ve experienced in my business over the past year.
“Small business owners in particular must have a passion for what they do - and this is true of most of my clients in the West Country where 80% of business is a lifestyle business.
“However, this has to be informed by some clear business objectives and focussed activities, otherwise there can be a danger of burnout - it is possible to run a business and to have a life too.”
The National Entrepreneur’s Convention will take place on 27th-28th September 2013 at the ICC in Birmingham, with the National Entrepreneur Awards being held on the Friday evening (27th). All UK businesses owners can enter the awards and entry is free to the Entrepreneur’s Circle and thebestof members. Closing date for award applications is 9th September 2013.
