Angie Garner, a Colour and Style Consultant has raised £100 for Ferne Animal Sanctuary’s “New Digs For Dogs” appeal by holding two themed coffee mornings at her home in Honiton

Angie recently invited her local contacts from the surrounding areas to attend two workshops in aid of the appeal. The first was a Colour Personality workshop held on Saturday 1st February 2014, followed by a Style Personality workshop on Saturday 22nd February 2014. Attendees gave a minimum donation of £5 for each workshop attended.

Angie decided to support the recently launched “New Digs For Dogs” appeal after Ferne Animal Sanctuary helped to rehome her nephew’s Jack Russell, “Chilli”.

Angie said: “I was so moved by the help and support my family and I received from all the staff at Ferne Animal Sanctuary that I felt it only appropriate to make their ‘New Digs For Dogs’ appeal the next charitable cause I would promote.”

Ferne Animal Sanctuary’s “New Digs For Dogs”’ £1million project for 2014/15 is to build a new enhanced kennel block, improved grooming and veterinary care room, information hub, social unit, offices, reception and purpose built rehoming centre at their site at Wambrook, Chard, Somerset.

Demolition of the old kennels - which were over 50 years old and completely dilapidated - has now taken place and building work is underway.

While an incredible £500,000 for the project will come from the charity’s reserves saved for this purpose, the remaining £500,000 needs to be raised through donations and fund-raising events.

Jenny Wheadon, Director at Ferne Animal Sanctuary said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this donation from Angie. What a fabulous fund-raising idea! I can’t thank her and her friends enough.

“Although we only officially launched our appeal in March this year, I am delighted to say that we have already raised an astonishing £37,000 towards our target of £500,000. There is still a very long way to go, but this is an incredibly good start.

“My sincere thanks go to everyone who has already helped us achieve £37,000 and also to those who have started to organise fund-raising events. All the staff at Ferne are so grateful – and so are our four-legged friends.

“This is the most expensive and ambitious project the Sanctuary has ever undertaken. I would like to encourage everyone - including local businesses, schools, colleges, communities and individuals - to join in and have some fun!”

Ferne Animal Sanctuary currently provides a safe and comfortable home for over 300 unwanted and abandoned animals. During 2013, Ferne Animal Sanctuary found homes for 343 unwanted dogs and cats, as well as foster homes for 13 horses. It receives animals and finds homes for them within a 40-mile radius of Chard, which includes Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

Fundraising packs and details of how to donate can be obtained by calling Ferne Animal Sanctuary on 01460 65214 or visiting www.ferneanimalsanctuary.org
