Agatha Christie Sea Swim - 18th September 2011

The annual BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal sponsored Agatha Christie Sea Swim is taking place on Sunday, 18th September 2011.

The English Riviera Tourism Company is delighted that the annual BBC Radio Devon Appeal sponsored Agatha Christie Sea Swim is taking place on Sunday, 18th September 2011 at Broadsands.

This unique event, now in its second year, offers a great opportunity for keen swimmers to raise money for the BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT). "¨

The mile long swim, which is open to serious and fun swimmers alike, follows a stunning route which starts and finishes at Paigntons Broadsands Beach; a favourite route of the world-famous authoress and keen sea swimmer, Agatha Christie.

Swimmers from 16 years and over with the ability to swim a mile within an hour and a half are invited to enjoy a fun, leisurely and safe swim with friends and family. For those with a competitive streak there is a challenge to beat; last years winner Joe Deasy completed the mile in an impressive 25.55 minutes. "¨

Last years 252 swimmers raised in excess of 10,000, which has made a huge contribution to the BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal. "¨The aim of the Air Ambulance appeal is to not only to raise the profile of the charity and the life saving work they do in the region, but also to encourage and engage the Devon community to help raise in the region of 600,000 in order to facilitate the ordering of a new helicopter. By owning rather than leasing a helicopter, the DAAT charity saves in excess of over 10,000 every single month!

DAATs Fundraising Director Caroline Creer said: We were delighted at the response received to our first sea swim last year and are equally delighted that the Agatha Christie Festival are once again supporting the charity and Appeal via this event. We learnt a great deal last year so there are a few things we will be doing differently for 2011, in order to make attending the event as enjoyable as possible for both the swimmer and their family and friends.

After completing the sponsored swim, entrants will be awarded a special commemorative medal and can enjoy the beautiful location, entertainment and revel in the satisfaction of knowing they have raised money for a great cause. "¨"¨Details and entry forms are available from any of the DAAT charity shops, by calling them on 01392 466666 or visiting our website at www.daat.org. Entry is just 20 plus a minimum of 30 sponsorship with all proceeds going directly to the BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal. "¨

The Agatha Christie Sea Swim is one of the events taking place during the English Rivieras world-famous Agatha Christie Festival, which draws visitors from all around the UK and the world. For more information visit the English Riviera Tourism Company website here.
