As part of her regular series where she visits Devon’s best places for 24 hours, Lydia Tewkesbury has this time been to Sidmouth


The Donkey Sanctuary

Make some new four-legged friends while you stroll the lovely grounds of the Sanctuary. Pop into Dr Svendsen’s hut to learn about the charity’s work.


Treat yourself to a massage, beauty treatment or day package at this serene spa. Take a dip in the hydrotherapy pool and finish off your session with a cream tea.

Jacob’s Ladder

This pebbled beach is perfect for a day out with the family. Swim, sunbathe or simply marvel at the gorgeous sea view. A section of the beach is dog-friendly year round – always check the signs.


The Pea Green Boat

With produce so local they even go out of their way to list their suppliers on their website – many of them in Sidmouth itself. Enjoy fresh, seasonal food with a sea view.

Bedford Hotel

Take in the full regency experience with a stay in this spectacular and historic building – one of the first built on the seafront in the early 1800s.

Sidmouth Harbour Hotel
