Plymouth City Centre Company is planning a right Royal knees up to celebrate the marriage of HRH Price William to Kate Middleton on Friday 29th April and everyone is invited!

Inspired by patriotic parties of yesteryear, the Piazza will be transformed into Plymouths largest street party, with footage from the ceremony at Westminster Abbey broadcast live on the big screen.

To create an atmosphere fit for a Prince, the Piazza will be a riot of red, white and blue, decorated with bunting and flags. There will also be plenty of picnic benches draped in gingham tablecloths from which to enjoy a host of traditional treats including cucumber sandwiches, Devon Cream Teas and even a glass of Pimms.

Clint Jones, Plymouth City Centre Manager said: Many people in the city have never experienced a great British street party, the kind held following WWII, for the Queens Coronation and Silver Jubilee and the wedding of Charles and Di.

We want to bring the spirit of the street party back and where better than the Piazza, where you can bring a picnic, join the celebrations and watch the ceremony live on a 30 square-metre screen?

To add to the programme of activity already planned for the Piazza, House of Fraser will be taking its Bridal collection out into the Street Party for a special Wedding inspired Fashion Show. Judge for yourself how Kates gown measures up to the best of the high street! And as no wedding is complete without some fantastic headwear, Stiltskin Theatre will be on the Piazza making sure Plymouth celebrates in style with free hat making workshops for children.

Cllr Vivien Pengelly, Leader of Plymouth City Council said: Im delighted that there are plans for a Royal Wedding street party in the heart of the city. The wedding is a chance to come together as a community and share a day of celebration, for William and Kate and for all the things that are great about Britain.

I hope to see hundreds of people at the street party on the Piazza for what promises to be a fun filled day for all the family. Either wear your party clothes - red, white or blue - or come dressed for a wedding. Ladies - how about your best hats?

As always there will be entertainment for the children with face painting, hat making, cake decorating and a variety of street entertainment all from 10am 4pm. There will also be stalls on the Piazza providing Royal Wedding themed products including beautiful union jack and wedding memorabilia from Lawsons and Beaux Cadeaux along with some limited edition royal wedding cupcakes from Mr Buns.

Coverage of the Royal Wedding on the Big Screen will start from 8am building up throughout the morning to the ceremony itself at 11am. Further details will be announced as they are confirmed.
