The people of Plymouth are in for a treat as a new casual dining restaurant and bar opens in the town. The Berkeley Bar & Grill, on the site of the former HA! HA! Bar and Canteen on Berkeley Square opened its doors to customers on Friday 15 April 2011 with a celebratory launch party.

The new restaurant and bar promises to deliver simple classic dishes using quality fresh ingredients including Devons finest local fish, a relaxed informal atmosphere, fabulous wines and cocktails and regular live pianist. The menu, packed with premium-quality grilled meat dishes, handmade stone baked pizzas served on wooden boards and superb selection of sharing platters, will be a balanced mix of quality ingredients, delicious dishes and value for money. There will be a daily fish specials menu with an emphasis on freshest of fish, sourced locally on the doorstep.

The contemporary new restaurant, situated in a former bank, is elegant yet quirky. With its sleek black and gold colour scheme throughout and miniature grand piano playing centre stage it evokes the sophistication of a bygone era with a thoroughly modern twist. Theres a private dining room with its own ipod docking station and integrated speaker system, perfect for every occasion from parties and celebrations to business meetings. A separate mezzanine level overlooking the bar is available to reserve for free, for parties or after work get togethers. With one of the best outside bar spaces Plymouth city centre has to offer the restaurant and bar is an ideal stop for summer lunches in the sunshine and moonlit cocktail evenings.

Opening every day from 9am for breakfast, the restaurant will offer mid morning coffee and pastries for business meetings, shoppers and tourists or simply a place for mums to meet. Cocktails will be available two for the price of one between the hours of 5-8pm every day. A pianist will perform during cocktail hour on Fridays and Saturdays and again between 12-3pm every Sunday. A choice of home-cooked Sunday roasts will be available every week.

The Berkeley is set to open on Friday 15 April with a launch party for the town. Residents are welcome to join manager Steve Lakeman and his team to celebrate from 7pm. Customers walking the black-carpet will enjoy a complimentary champagne and canap reception, fire-eater display, live DJ, and mojito cocktail bar. Customers can enter the restaurants competition to win a private dining room for an evening including food and drink by visiting www.theberkeleybarandgrill.com

The bar and grill will open with some great offers including a 5 lunch menu, 2 for 1 pizzas on Monday evenings and two grilled dishes and a bottle of wine for 20 during Tuesdays grill night. As well as an extensive wine list, cocktail menu and draught and bottled beers available there will be 4 cask ale handpulls on the bar. Guests ales will feature from South West brewers such as Dartmoor Brewery and Skinners making it a haven for real ale lovers.

Steve Lakeman, manager of The Berkeley Bar & Grill said, The new restaurant and bar will ooze sophistication and quality, yet provide a really great value for money dining experience. With main meals for just 5, two for 1 cocktails every day and our fantastic Wine Wednesday promotion where a selection of our more expensive bottles of wine will be available for just 10.95, The Berkeley Bar and Grill is a truly affordable treat. We promise to offer a warm and welcoming retreat for customers who enjoy great food and love nothing better than an evening spent with friends and family in style.

Were sure our regular live pianist sessions from 5pm on Friday & Saturday evenings will be the perfect accompaniment to our cocktail evening. Just as it will, no doubt, become a favourite with our Sunday lunch diners.

The royal wedding is fast approaching and we hope the people of Plymouth will join us to celebrate the day in style. Weve a traditional street party planned, with live music, an all day bbq and magician. Do pop in the bar for more details or visit www.the berkeleybarand grill.com , he continued.
