Greyhound owners from all four corners of the UK will come together later this year in an attempt to break the Guinness world record for the largest single breed dog walk.

Greyt day out!

Greyhound owners from all four corners of the UK will come together later this year in an attempt to break the Guinness world record for the largest single breed dog walk.

Organisers hope to attract over 1000 Greyhounds and their owners to the event on 9 September. The previous record was set in 2010 by 700 Labradors in Warsaw, Poland, in an event organised by Kimberly-Clark, owners of the Andrex brand.

The Greyhound Sanctuary, a small independent rescue in Devon, has joined together with other Greyhound charities to organise the three-mile walk at Escot Park, Ottery St. Mary, Devon. It is hoped the world record attempt will raise the profile of the breed and alert potential adopters to the fact they can make fantastic pets.

Entry is just 5 for each dog entered. The rules state only one Greyhound per person can be counted, so if you know someone with two, why not go along to offer a helping hand and get the numbers up. Under Guinness rules, all dogs taking part must carry documentation stating they are Greyhounds or Italian Greyhounds, for example a pedigree certificate or note from your vet. Unfortunately crossbreeds cannot enter the record attempt, but are more than welcome to join in and support the walk. Participants can also be sponsored for the walk, and can choose charity for which they would like to fundraise.
