Charity Dinner and Auction in aid of Royal Marines

Tickets are now available for a fantastic evening at Somerset County Cricket Ground on 26 May, with all proceeds going to help the families of injured Royal Marines based at 40 Commando in Taunton.

A charity dinner and auction event to be held at the Somerset County Cricket Ground on 26 May 2012 aims to raise money for the families of local heroes.

Tickets are now available for this fantastic evening, with all proceeds going to help the families of injured Royal Marines based at 40 Commando in Taunton.

Tickets are just 30 each for a fabulous evening of dinner and dancing. The charity auction will be hosted by auctioneer Paul Griffiths from Sawdye & Harris. Guests will be treated to signed and sought after items that money cannot buy from the worlds of music and sport.

Just some of the main auction prizes include:

  • Oasis guitar

  • Kevin Pietersens cricket bat and pad

  • Chris Hoys cycling suit

  • Henry Coopers boxing glove

  • Usain Bolts running spikes

  • Peles shirt and a 1966 World Cup shirt

  • Lewis Hamiltons shirt and Jenson Buttons shirt

After dinner speaker and former Royal Marine, Alan Chambers MBE, will also be there to present the highs and lows of his unsupported walk to the North Pole.

Speaking about the event, Alan Chambers said, As a former Royal Marine, I am delighted to be able to support such an important event. The evening promises to be great fun and I am confident that guests will dig deep to support such an important local project.

During the evening, there will also be a silent auction with a wide range of sought-after items for people to bid for, including:

  • Jonny Wilkinsons shirt

  • Steve Gerrards boots and David Beckhams boots

  • Alastair Cookes cricket bat

  • Valentino Rossi Print

  • Sebastian Vettal & Mark Webber shirts

  • Messis boots

  • Novak Djokovics tennis ball

  • Andy Murrays tennis racquet

  • Tiger Woods pin flag

Proceeds from the event will help to convert the old Norton Manor Medical Centre into a pristine facility for families. The event is sponsored by chartered accountants Haines Watts and, unlike other events, all proceeds will go directly to the families of 40 Commando.

The aim of the evening is to raise funds to support the families of our serving Royal Marines whilst their loved ones are deployed. Royal Marines from 40 Commando, based at Norton Manor in Taunton, are due to deploy to Afghanistan again later this year. The generosity of guests attending this charity sports dinner will ensure that the families left behind are supported and those requiring assistance on their return get the help that they need.

Some of the money raised will help transform the families centre that provides a crucial meeting place and support network for families whilst the men are deployed. The facilities include a crche and coffee shop facilities that enable families to come together to play, relax and a chance to offer each other support. A popular selling point of the evening is the fact that all proceeds will affect the families of our local heroes and will not filter into the larger pot to be distributed far and wide.

In conjunction with the auction and after dinner speech the evening will be capped off with live music from local band, Southern Discomfort. The band is made up of serving Royal Marines who will sing out the night with an eclectic mix from the last few decades.

The event starts at 6pm. Tickets are priced at 30 and are available from organisers Craig Williams (07557 029613) and Mark Sheraton (07879 448396). Dress code is lounge suits and cocktail dresses.
