Blue Cross has set a date of Sunday 9 April 2017 for its 10th annual dog event at Oddicombe beach.

The event is expected to be teaming with more than a hundred of Devon’s dogs, owners and spectators attending to enjoy celebrating the ten-year anniversary of this charity Dog Day Out.

As many of Devon’s beaches ban our canine chums during the summer season, The Dog Day allows dogs to make the most use of the sand and surf and is still going strong in its tenth year.

As popular as ever, the family-friendly event is expected to be jam-packed with canine cheer as dogs compete in a series of agility courses, races and dog shows, with favourites including ‘temptation alley’ – a series of challenges to test even the most faithful hound.

This year, the winner of Best in Show will become the face of Oddicombe Dog Day April 2018, earning their place on the event posters and all promotion for the event. All other pooches have the chance to win prizes in the other classes including Best Rescue Dog, Cutest Puppy, Most Gorgeous Golden Oldie and Dog that Looks Most Like its Owner.

Kelly Hennequin, Volunteer Coordinator at Torbay Blue Cross, said: “We’re really excited to be hosting Oddicombe Dog Day for the 10th year running! We’ve had amazing support from the people of Devon over the years and the dogs always have a blast. This day is great fun for all the family and most importantly, raises awareness and vital funding; helping us to care for even more unwanted and abandoned pets. Here’s to the next 10 years!”

Blue Cross will also have animal behaviourists attending the event, on-hand to answer all your dog-related questions.

Registration starts at 10:00am and costs £2 per dog. All entrants will receive a free goody bag (one per family, while stocks last). There is also a £1 entry charge per class in the dog show, with rosettes for the top five in each category and a prize bag for the winner.

Full line up for the day:

Registration: 10am-11am

Agility: 10am-1pm

Temptation Alley: 10am-1pm

Relay Races: 11am-11.30am

Dog Races: 11.30am-12pm

Dog Show: 12pm-1pm
