These pictures of 1960s Plymouth show the bright new Co-op at Derrys Cross, and the latest fashions of the day being modelled on location in the clean, bright, democratic and optimistic post-war city

These captivating photos are all part of an extensive collection held by South West Image Bank, spanning the history of the Plymouth Co-operative Society from 1900 to 1990. Deposited in 2008, the collection of more than 1,500 images has been catalogued and digitized to preserve its unique insight into the expansion of the Co-operative Society in Plymouth and the post-war reconstruction in the city centre.

The South West Image Bank is a community based photographic archive, custodians of more than 160 growing photographic collections. SWIB was set up by the Plymouth Barbican Trust in 2007.

The main photographic collection forms part of the Western Morning News collection, which comprises more than 2 million images from 1945 2002.
SWIB is also home to collections some dating back to the 1860s, deposited by businesses, societies, photographers and members of the public. For more information call 01752 665445 or visit
