Less than 18 months after joining the technical sales team at Barnstaple-based Golden Coast, Daniel Johnson won the major SPATA Paul Kite Award for Pool Star of the Year at the national Swimming Pool and Allied Trade Association (SPATA) and British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association(BISHTA) gala award ceremony in Brighton last week.

The award is open to all manufacturers, suppliers and builders of swimming pools in the UK.

Joining Golden Coast from an automotive background and aware of his lack of previous experience in the swimming pool industry, Dan faced an almost vertical learning-curve. Keen to know products inside-out, he completely immersed himselfin the subject in order to provide professional technical assistance to customers on a diverse range of subjects and products.

His attention to detail andenthusiasm, coupled with his excellent customer service skills gained during his previous employment, have made him a firm favourite with customers, who, along with his colleagues, he deals with on a daily basis.

The citation from Golden Coast said: Combining self-motivation and excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to listen in order to fully understand and identify a customers requirements, Dan is a team player who continues to work hard to achieve his targets which currently include taking his Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers exam later this year.

According to Jamie Adams, managing director at Golden Coast, suppliers have commented on Dans professional approach and his appetite for learning, not only about the benefits of a product but also seeking solutions to meet customers needs.

Dans rapid development and understanding of both the products and services the company offers and the diverse nature of our customers, has allowed him to take a more proactive approach to his role. He now regularly visits customers at their premises and offers further advice and training when required, said Adams.
