Our wine writer Rebecca Mitchell is planning a wine tasting tour in Zimbabwe and South Africa

Devon Life’s wine columnist, Exeter-based Rebecca Mitchell has teamed up with Modbury-based Zambezi Safari & Travel to host a 10-day tour into Zimbabwe and South Africa that combines the chance to sample some of the regions best wines with wildlife safaris.

One of the highlights of this trip is a visit to an underground wine cellar that is next to a watering hole which means you may be discovering new wines (underground) and looking out at elephants at the watering hole at ground level.

Rebecca, who runs informal wine workshops across Devon, as well as teaching formal WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) wine qualifications has worked at wineries in France and New Zealand and is one of the county’s top wine educators and experts.

Her sister, Jemma, co-owns and runs the popular Rendezvous Wine Bar in Exeter and Rebecca is also the wine tutor at the award-winning Ashburton School of Cookery so her credentials are impeccable.

With a special interest in Devon’s own vineyards and also producers making organic and biodynamic wines, she is also a wine judge for the South West vineyards Association and the International Wine Challenge.

Rebecca’s new tour will take participants to Victoria Falls, the Hwange National Park (Zimbabwe’s biggest game reserve) and on to Cape Town and finally the Franschhoek estate in the heart of the Cape winelands.

Rebecca says: ‘I have hand-picked some of my favourite places in Zimbabwe and South Africa to visit. There look forward to sharing my passion for South African wines. There are some exceptional and award-winning wines being produced in South Africa that can boast world acclaim and we will be sampling some of my absolute favourites. We will also have the chance to experience some real African highlights and it really promises to be the trip of a lifetime!

The tour costs £3070 per person which includes accommodation, transfers and wine tastings. For all the details visit zambezi.com
