Foodies are counting down for the return of Exeter’s food festival which has a well-deserved place on the national calendar of gastronomic events. This year sees the 15th festival transform the grounds of Exeter Castle Courtyard and Northernhay Gardens on the May Day Bank Holiday, from Saturday 5 to Monday 7 May.

As well as all the features we’ve come to know and love, 2018 has some delicious new treats in store in the form of fresh new exhibitors, creators of delicious produce who will be at the festival for the very first time.

The festival’s Fresh at the Festival scheme, this year sponsored by NFU Mutual, celebrates and supports new foodie talent in the region.

Expect gourmet scotch eggs from Exmoor-based Chickies Gourmet Eggs who will be putting a decadent spin on this traditional snack. Forest Fungi, based in Dawlish will be bringing delicious mushrooms from its ‘shroom room’ where a carefully controlled micro-climate grows shiitake mushrooms that are in high demand from Devon’s top restaurants and foodies.

For those looking to make sure all aspects of their culinary creations are local, Happy Butter Ghee from Totnes is where it’s at. Stock up your store cupboard with pots of organic award-winning grass-fed ghee, it’s ready to transform your cooking.

JEAM Super Mixes will be making its festival debut with its range of nutrient-rich organic bread mixes that are easy to make and pack a healthy punch. Taste isn’t compromised either, with multiple Great Taste Awards on the JEAM mantelpiece.

Fans of locally-produced, artisan beers have a new range to discover at The Stannary Brewing Company from Tavistock. For those who prefer spirits and cocktails, new kid on the block, TORS Vodka will be bringing its English vodka, crafted in micro batches on Dartmoor.

The festivities kick off at 6.30pm on Friday 4 May with the all-new Exeter Beats, featuring live music, street-food, regional drinks and a lively atmosphere (undercover if it’s wet). Two further Exeter Beats events will light up the courtyard on Saturday and Sunday evenings. The festival features celebrity chefs, food and drink producers, family-friendly workshops and live music.
