Entries for the Devon Life Home Cook of the Year competition closed on June 11.

We’ll announce the winner and the name of our Home Cook of the Year 2014 at the Devon Life black tie Food and Drink award in November and the winner will take home a specially-commissioned trophy by made by Torrington-based Dartington Crystal. To see the prizes click here.

The 12 semi-finalists will be invited to cook one element of their three-course menu at home for two of our intermediary panel of judges (To see the judges click here ). All of our semi finalists will be featured, along with their menus, in the Food & Drink summer special issue of Devon Life which is published on 3 July.

As part of the competition, Bradburys Kitchens is offering the 12 semi-finalists specialist on-site training in any of the techniques associated with the Alno range that the cooks might like to try. For example, some of the kitchens include a built-in steam oven; others an integral Teppanyaki hot plate. And if you are among the lucky 12, this is a brilliant opportunity to develop some more specialist home cooking skills.

The Final

The six finalists for the title of Devon Life Home Cook of the Year 2014 will attend a weekend cook-off at Bradburys Kitchens’ Exeter showroom where they will cook the three course meal (plus a vegetarian main alternative) for our Finals Judges. The ingredients for the finals are being supplied by Waitrose and all six finalises will be invited to shop at the Teignmouth Waitrose store, in advance of the finals weekend, to select and set aside their chosen ingredients.

Each finalist will cook in the showroom for two hours to produce their chosen menu.

The finals weekend is 20 & 21 September. The Devon Life Home Cook of the Year 2014 winner will be announced at the Devon Life Food & Drink awards dinner on 6 November.

The new Devon Life Home Cook of the Year competition is sponsored by Alno, Miele and Waitrose. Businesses who would like to sponsor the Devon Life Food & Drink Awards 2014 should contact Amanda McKeown, Archant Life Projects on 01803 860929 or 07584 311460 the 2014 campaign will commence shortly.
