To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Exeter Festival Chorus, Devon Life is offering the chance to win a fantastic festive musical break in Exeter
Be part of the city’s festive celebrations. Join Exeter Festival Chorus as they perform the Lord Mayor of Exeter’s Charity Concert, Peace on Earth in the stunningly atmospheric setting of Exeter Cathedral on Saturday 15 December at 7.30pm.
Begin your evening with a delightful pre-concert supper at Rendezvous Wine Bar, well known for its exceptional wine list paired with delicious menus of locally sourced produce, and finish the night’s entertainment, after the concert, with a B&B stay for two at The Mercure Southgate Hotel Southernhay East.
Exeter Festival Chorus has gained a reputation as one of the liveliest and most adventurous choirs in the South West. Under the inspired and dynamic musical direction of Nigel Perrin (formerly the ‘high voice’ of the original King’s Singers), this choir of 75 singers has become one of the region’s most versatile and highly acclaimed choral groups.
This December, EFC’s Christmas concert sparkles into life with a cornucopia of festive musical treats. Guest artist and renowned baritone, Roderick Williams OBE, and The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, CTCRM, are the star partners of the choir.
In part a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, the concert takes us on a journey of Christmas hope for peace on earth. To open the concert, eminent British composer, Paul Patterson, has composed a special fanfare and choral introduction.
Centre stage are excerpts from Karl Jenkins’ extraordinarily popular work The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, one of the most successful and well-loved compositions of modern times. Roderick Williams will treat us to a selection of sea-themed numbers and will usher in the second half of the programme with Handel’s magnificent The Trumpet Shall Sound from Messiah, leading us towards Christmas.
There will be new arrangements of carols, plus, of course, some old favourites for the audience to join in. Mulled wine and mince pies are on the menu too, so a great festive evening awaits you!
Rendezvous is an award-winning independent wine bar and restaurant in the city centre’s leafy Southernhay Quarter, and offering something a little more unique in Exeter for the discerning wine drinker and food lover since 2006.
The Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel is a contemporary 4-star hotel with a spa and heated pool. It is located in the heart of Exeter close to the cathedral, the shopping areas of Princesshay, Bedford Square and the historic quay. The location is perfectly situated for short breaks.
At the end of the concert there will be a collection for the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity, SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, which exists to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity.
